APPLICATION PROCESS:
There are 3 steps to applying to Summit:

STEP 1: District Programs Registry - Nov 12 - Dec 19, 2024

• Go to https://dsapreg.vsb.bc.ca and complete the district registration. 
  You will be asked for basic information (name, contact info etc.) and to rank up to 3 VSB mini-schools you would like to apply to.  You must complete this step by the deadline of December 19th, 2024.

• In this process, you will be asked if you want to submit documents. You DO NOT need to submit any documents here for Summit's application.

 

STEP 2: Summit Application and Supporting Documents - January 10, 2025

• REQUIRED: In this application, you must submit the following three documents: 

  • Summit Application Form (click on the link to download a fillable PDF), and then print it. You can attach another page if you need more space than the form allows. ​

  • Grade 6 final report card

  • Grade 7 first report card (in case your Grade 7 report is not issued in time for the deadline, please submit all other documents, and email your Grade 7 report when it is issued to aladamson@vsb.bc.ca

• OPTIONAL: You MAY include up to 3 printed pages of documents to support your application. These can include awards, certificates, reference letters or work samples. Please only submit photocopies as these will not be returned. ​

• The Summit Application, report cards and supporting documents must be submitted ON PAPER to Van Tech Secondary by the deadline of January 10th, 2025. There are two ways to submit this: 

  • Drop off in person at Van Tech (2600 E Broadway); or​

  • If you are in a VSB elementary school, ask your school office to use VSB's internal mail ("blue bag") service to send it to Van Tech. If you use this option, please submit at least 2 days before the deadline to ensure it arrives on time. 

 

STEP 3: Entrance Testing and Interview - Tuesday, January 28th, 2025 (afternoon)

•  From the application package, our selection committee will shortlist approximately 60 students and invite them to a testing/interview day. Invitations will be sent out on Monday, January 20th, 2025.

• Selected candidates will receive more information (via email) about what to expect.

Criteria for Selection: 

1. 'Extending' results in Math and Science on Grade 6 and 7 reports

2. 'Applying' or better results in all other subject areas

3. Results of selection day testing

4. Student responses on application, teacher report card comments, and interview process that indicate positive work habits and attitudes towards learning, as well as a diversity of interests.
